Protesting Arrest of Jewish Girl Rejecting Service in Israeli Army

Updated: May 30, 2019

On Thursday, February 21, 2019 a protest took place outside the Israeli military court house in Jaffa, during the trial of a religious Jewish girl Rinat Bas Chadva, 19 years old, who was arrested on January 22, 2019, for refusing to serve in the Israeli Defense Force [IDF].

Following the trial Rinat was escorted, handcuffed to two police officers, to a police vehicle, to return her to military prison where she is enduring solitary confinement.

The protesters attempted to prevent the transport by blocking the vehicle from departing. The police used excessive force against the protesters, including a father holding his young boy on his arms and an elderly religious Jewish scholar, Rabbi Mordechai Rotman, who was shoved to the ground, injured and hospitalized.

Numerous protest are being held in Israel and abroad in defense of Rinat and of other conscientious objectors.
