On August 8, 2017, in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem the Israeli police vandalized the offices of Merkaz Hatzola on Chevra Shas St, confiscating computers, files, and documents, and damaging to the extent of nearly-destroying everything that they left behind.
Merkaz Hatzola is an organization that helps Orthodox, anti-Zionist Jews avoid conscription into the Israeli army.
Four staff members who were in the office – Eliezer Anshin, Avrohom Mintzberg, Shlomo Tzvi Genzel, and Chaim Eliye Lowinger – were brutally arrested.
Residents of the neighborhood spontaneously gathered to protest the police raid and rabid vandalization of the office of Merkaz Hatzola.
During the protest the protesters – including women, girls, and children – were viciously and brutally attacked. A number of people were brutishly arrested, among them the well-known and distinguished Rabbi Meir Dov Steinberger, Rosh Kollel of Kollel L’Mitziyunim.
